TIMEX X YMC

YMC and Timex first collaborated in 2019 – drawn together by a shared design sensibility they saw in each other. The teams combined to create a special edition of Timex’s 36mm Camper watch – first made for the US military – rendering the classic field watch in a rich golden brown, a style which quickly sold out its entire production run.

So when YMC were looking to celebrate their 25th anniversary with friends and collaborators, they are delighted to team up again with Timex for a second special collaborative design.

This time the focus is another throwback Timex design – the classic digital T80. With a similar eye toward the utilitarian as YMC’s clothing designs, this function-forward watch does a lot with a little, leaning more into subtle design elements and understated boldness than loud colours or graphics. Crafted in a translucent muted-green guise, the classic analogue watch has received the YMC treatment, with a clear eye for detail and craft: the balance of hue and translucency throughout the resin case and strap, the slight view of the watch’s inner workings around the edges of the display, the small-yet-substantial logomark on the face of it.

This watch packs in all the classic functionality you’d expect from a digital Timex — a stopwatch, a day and date display, 30 meters of water resistance, an INDIGLO® backlight and a comfortable, ergonomic design.

“Timex the legendary watch company have been adorning the wrists of people for nearly 170 years now and back in the 70s my very first timepiece as a young boy was their Mickey Mouse watch. However, we have turned out attention to their 80s classic LCD the Timex T80…the watch equivalent of synth-pop. This perfect example of future-retro design has been created in an X-ray military green which allows the wearer to peer inside and see the magic workings of a digital watch.” – Fraser Moss, Creative Director, YMC
