Dazed and YMC come together to launch a limited edition collaboration - a capsule collection of t-shirts to celebrate our respective 35th and 30th anniversaries.
Titled the 1996 Orgy T-Shirt reissue, it delves into our shared archives and takes inspiration from an advertisement in the July 1996 issue of Dazed & Confused, featuring a series of specially commissioned t-shirts created by a series of designers, including YMC.
“We loved the collection’s play on words - stripper and stripper - and felt it perfectly captured the punky, irreverent, put-your-fingers-up attitude that has defined the magazine for the past three and a half decades. It felt right to bring it back.” - Ester Mejibovski, Dazed Art Director
The 1996 Orgy T-Shirt reissue features a photograph by Ollie Dove, accompanied by the slogan “Dazed & Confused Stripper."
“I photographed this image 10 years ago. I was making loose drawings of humans living all over each other, but the drawings weren’t working, so I asked my friends to reinterpret one of them for me so I could photograph it. Everyone thinks it’s an orgy! In my head, it wasn’t sexual at all - it was about feeling completely overwhelmed by humans and the complications of being human.” - Ollie Dove, Artist
"YMC and Dazed have always been closely connected, especially in the early days of the brand in the 1990s. I’ve always been inspired by the Dazed editorials from that time, many of which featured YMC. When we found this T-Shirt in the archive, it felt right to bring it back as both YMC and Dazed reached this milestone. It feels as relevant now as it did then, and is a simple reminder of the punk, DIY spirit that YMC started with." - Sage Toda-Nation, YMC Creative Director
Dazed's profits will be donated to a young designer to help fund their next collection. YMC profits will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Care, in honour of YMC's co-founder and original creative director Fraser Moss.
